THE FLOWER ARRANGING STUDY GROUP - 2006
The Flower Arranging Study Group of the Garden Club of America met in Nashville, Tennessee in the beginning of November.  Two sessions were held Nov. 3-6 and Nov. 6-9.  I was fortunate to attend session #1 in this years group and what a treat.  We were instructed in Modern Italian Floral Design by Giusi Ferrari Cielo of Brescia.  Giusi is a teacher, demonstrator and International Judge and member of the Italian Institute  of Amateur Floral Designers.
We were given lessons for Modern Line Arrangements, Modern Mass Arrangements, Stacked Arrangements and Creating Movement within our designs.  Two days of intensive lessons….Evening on the other hand were quite different.  We enjoyed each others company along with some very special southern dishes.  Who knew “Fried Green Tomatoes” were so yummy?
Saturday evening we all had a very special treat.  GCA President, Alice Matthews invited all of us for cocktails and a garden tour at her home in Nashville.  There was a nip in the air, but Southern hospitality prevailed and warmed all of us up.  After an hour or so we all headed out to Belle Mead Country Club to dine.
Sunday there were more lessons at Cheekwood Gardens with our Instructor and not always about flowers as you might expect.  We all managed to learn a few words of Italian.  It was great fun with good friends.  I even became reacquainted with our very own LGC Associate member, Ina Schnell.
Ina now lives in Florida as you all know.  We talked a lot about the Berkshires and I tried to fill her in on what’s happening.  She wanted to make sure that I said HELLO to all and hope that you are all well.
If any of you are interested in the Flower Arranging Study Group I have given you some information below:  Please consider a subscription to their magazine.  It’s filled with flower show pictures, ideas and tips.  It even gives a list of upcoming shows for all those who like to exhibit and or attend GCA events.
Arrivederci, Buona giornata!
