For those of you who are preparing to participate in the centennial Flower Show’s horticulture challenge class, just a reminder that it’s time to take your seeds of Sarracenia purpurea (purple pitcher plant) out of the fridge and bring them gradually into the warmth so they thinks it’s spring. They need warm tempertatures (70 degrees or so) and bright light. Avoid direct sun so the sprouts don’t cook. The pot can be removed from the plastic bag when the seeds sprout. Avoid water that has been softened, as these bog plants can’t tolerate mineral buildup. Look on the web for more information from the Carnivorous Plant Society and other sources.
